When Whitney came to us about creating a beautiful and moving work of art (in the form of a short book) we jumped on board. As Whitney defines it, A Wave Called Grief is “more than a card and less than a how-to guide, because a how-to guide for mourning is an impossible and presumptuous thing to create.” We designed and illustrated the 42-page pocket guide with the goal of balance: portraying both the overwhelming nature of grief and the uplifting message of hope. From the cover, to the illustrations, to the way text is laid out on a page, the design is intended to be approachable and comforting.
